Murang’a governor Mwangi Wairia is among the few present leaders who recognized the role played by Kenneth Njindo Matiba before his death that occurred last Sunday at Karen Hospital.
In May 2016 Wairia opened Kenneth Matiba Eye and Dental Hospital at Kenol in Maragua sub county in honour of the late Matiba.
The launch of the health facility saw Matiba appear in public for the fast in almost a decade where those who attended the ceremony almost caused a stampede outside the hospital as they jostled to catch a glimpse of the veteran politician.
In his speech at the launch of the facility Matiba who did not get out of his car said he was extremely happy that the governor was the first leader to recognize the efforts he made for a better Kenya in the ’80s and ’90s.
“I am happy the governor is the first person to recognize what i have done for this nation,” Matiba said.
The hospital has since benefited thousands of Murang’a residents and outsiders with eye and dental related problems.
