Murang’a senator Irungu Kang’ata has come openly for the fast time to support Uhuru-Raila pact commonly referred to as “the handshake”.
In a interview with a local radio station Kang’ata who deals with stock exchange business said the economy has grown steadily since president Uhuru Kenyatta met his competitor in the 2017 contested presidential election Raila Odinga.
“I deal with stock exchange business and since president Kenyatta met Raila Odinga I can confirm all is going well,” Kang’ata said.
The former Kiharu member of parliament however, went ahead to ask president Uhuru Kenyatta to be on the look out saying Odinga cannot be given full trust.
He cited previous instances where the former premier has made agreements with previous presidents leaving them stranded and confused after cunningly edging them out.
“Remember this is the same Raila we had during the Moi era and you know what he did,” Kang’ata posed.
Several lawmakers from Mt.Kenya region and Rift Valley have questioned the Uhuru-Raila truce with the view that it may complicate matter for deputy president William Ruto 2022 presidential bid.
Ruto has however, asked his troops to support the memorandum of understanding signed between the two leaders for the sake of healing the nation.
